Kids and parents learn side by side, which settles once and for all who the fast learner in the family is. Fair warning: it’s usually not the grown-up.

Real tiles, no kid stuff
Kids get the same table the grown-ups get: a weighted set in the hand, an acrylic rack and pusher at every seat, a mat beneath the tiles. Eight-year-olds notice when something is the real thing, and they rise to it.
Ninety minutes is the sweet spot. Long enough to actually play, short enough that nobody melts down. Both of us teach, so no one waits with a question.
